Thick Magazine has grown and matured a lot over the years. 2007 is the dawn of a new era. Not only for our magazine and website but for entertainment on a large scale. These days a lot of movies and video games are based on comic books or graphic novels. If you think about it, the comic book is a perfectly crafted storyboard for these directors and screenwriters to work from. Obviously Marvel has been making a killing in Hollywood. That along with the success of Frank Miller's Sin City and 300 have got production companies buying up the rights to any and every comic title on the market. In turn, it has re-ignited the comic book industry. On a quest to find what's next we've been lead directly to comics and graphic novels. Image Comics has blessed us with an advanced look at a new comic series titled The Mice Templar. The story is based on old Knights Templar lore, which provides a solid foundation to build on. Aside from having the template for a great set of stories, the drawings of the sword wielding mice are amazing. Michael Avon Oeming's artwork is polished off nicely with crisp colors done by Wil Quintana. Bryan J.L. Glass gets his props too. The story is interesting and well written but at times the characters' dialogue is cheesy. In this debut issue, The Prophecy Part 1: The Calling, we follow our young mouse hero Karic as he first learns about the old stories of the Mice Templar. He soon becomes obsessed with the idea and won't stop playing "templar". Things get crazy when Karic's village is attacked by an army of Rats and the only one that can save them is Master Deishun, one of the few living Templars. But he gets done savagely with about seven swords through his back. To find out what really happens you're gonna have to read the comic for yourself. The only way I can describe it is like The Secret of Nihm meets 300. If you'd like to see blood thirsty rodents impaling each other with swords and spears, then you need to get a taste of The Mice Templar.
