This isn't the same Sherlock Holmes your grandparents grew up on. The great thing about folklore and legends is that they grow and mutate over the years. When classic characters are revisited with modern perversions, you never know what you're gonna get. This adult comic book definitely reminds me of Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The fact that the authors name is Omaha Perez makes me consider the possibility that old Alan might have a writing alias. Regardless of my conspiracy theory, Holmes is good...bloody good! Sherlock and his trusty sidekick Dr. Watson are searching for grave-robbers. At least that's what they lead you to believe but Holmes is out of his mind and gone off that opium. One of my favorite scenes is their trip to this whore house. Sherlock tells this young prostitute everything about her without knowing her and blows her mind; while Watson gets his three way action on. I love how Holmes is always chasing people he claims are Moriarty. The world's greatest detective of all time is a delusional drug addict! Rumour has it that Guy Ritchie's version of Sherlock Holmes is loosely based on this graphic novel. If that's even half true, then they made a impeccable choice in casting Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes. I highly suggest reading the graphic novel before the movie drops.
